The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) has a continuous need for up-to-date, reliable and integrated insights into social, economic and ecological developments within agriculture, fisheries, the food chain and nature. To meet this need, the State of Agriculture was launched in 2021. It has since evolved into the State of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Nature.
This annual publication brings together facts, figures and in-depth analyses on the themes of agriculture, fisheries, nature and food. In addition, it includes a thematic supplement for deeper exploration. The publication serves as a central information point, providing policy officers and other professionals with quick access to data and analyses. This information is used, among other things, for policy development and to answer questions from the House of Representatives.
The State is published annually by Wageningen Social & Economic Research in cooperation with Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The analyses draw, among other sources, on data from the Dutch Farm Sustainability Data Network (FSDN) of Wageningen Social & Economic Research.
All data are also continuously available on the website staatvanlandbouwnatuurenvoedsel.nl. In addition to the most recent figures and analyses, the site also offers indicators that reveal trends in agriculture, fisheries, food and nature.
