Rates per test
Our rate list provides full details of test rates, how to provide samples, and turnaround times.
Samples can be tested individually or they can be pooled. The rate list indicates which tests offer pooling. The pooled system uses a sliding scale similar to that of individual sample testing.
When samples are provided for pooled testing, the pooled rate will apply regardless of the number of samples in that pool. For example, if a maximum of 5 samples can be pooled, it doesn’t matter if you send in 3 or 5 samples. The same pooled rate will apply. A positive result of a pool test will always be followed up with individual tests on the samples that were in the pool.

News about diagnostics
Surrounding the holiday season 2025-2026 there are deviations in the deployment days of various tests. Download the PDF below (in Dutch) for more information.
From now on, horses that will be exported to South Africa must be tested by both Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR) and the WOAH Reference Laboratory for surra (T. evansi). Testing includes only the CATT, which must be performed by both WBVR and the WOAH Reference Laboratory.
WBVR will forward the sample to the WOAH reference laboratory. The costs and turnaround time of the additional test can be found in our price list. The submitting party will receive an invoice for all tests. Please take this into account when submitting samples to avoid unexpected delays or costs.
We are pleased to inform you that the ELISA for African horse sickness (test code APP01) is once again being performed in-house at WBVR. Samples no longer need to be forwarded. As a result, the usual turnaround time of 1 to 3 working days applies again.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during the outsourcing period.
From 15 August 2025, Wageningen Bioveterinary Research stops offering the analysis for Mycobacterium paratuberculosis using the CBR (article MPT01). The reason for this is that the World Organisation for Animal Health has replaced it in the manual with the M. paratuberculosis ELISA (art. MPT03) as the test to be used. The materials for performing the CBR are no longer available and the accreditation has been withdrawn.
The laboratory to which WBVR outsources the CBR determination for Babesia caballi (B. caballi) with test code BCB03 and Theileria equi (T. equi) with test code THE03 has announced today, 25 July 2025, that it will no longer be able to perform this test as of 4 August 2025. WBVR regrets that it will no longer be able to serve its customers by offering this test. After 31 July 2025, WBVR will no longer accept samples for this CBR.
The CBR for equine piroplasmosis is usually requested in connection with the export of horses to the United States. Although this test is not included in the health certificate, we know that the CBR is performed in the United States after the horse has been imported and that our customers therefore request the CBR.
WBVR and other laboratories have been struggling for some time with the unavailability of the antigen required for this test and we do not expect to find an alternative laboratory to which we can outsource this test.
