Excursions at Dairy Campus
Dairy Campus in Leeuwarden is where science and practice come together. In an inspiring setting, you’ll discover how we are shaping the future of dairy farming and the dairy chain. Every year we welcome visitors from all over the world – from students and professionals to companies and policymakers.
Our guided tours
An excursion takes about 2 to 2.5 hours and begins with coffee or tea, followed by a short presentation about Dairy Campus and our projects. Afterwards, you’ll join a guided tour of our research barns and trial fields, where innovation and sustainability take center stage.
Each barn has its own research theme – from feed and milk production to manure and the environment – giving you a unique insight into ongoing studies and cutting-edge technologies.
Excursion programs
1. Discover Dairy Campus
Get to know the research and practice center with 500 cows producing both data and milk every day. During the tour, you’ll visit several research barns.
Duration: 2 hours
2. Milk & Dairy
A closer look at milk and dairy cows. Visit the rotary milking parlor, milking robot, and feed barn, and learn more about lactation, milk yield, and innovative projects on milk processing.
Afternoons only, from 14:00 · Duration: 2.5 hours
3. Smart Farming (Feed)
From our skybox, you’ll get a unique view of the feed barn, RIC feeders, feed robot, and GreenFeeds. This tour focuses on feeding strategies to reduce methane emissions and the role of data in modern dairy farming.
Duration: 2.5 hours
4. Health & Climate
Explore our climate research barn, where innovative solutions for reducing nitrogen and ammonia are tested. You’ll see different floors, scrapers, and measuring instruments in action.
Thursdays only · Duration: 2.5 hours
Combine or customise
- Combine your excursion with a tailor-made presentation from a Wageningen University & Research expert or one of our partners.
- Create a full-day program together with us, including visits to barn builders, milk processors, or feed companies.
