Research of Aquaculture biology and Fisheries ecology

Global consumption and demand for aquatic food will continue to increase. Climate change will affect life in oceans, the North Sea, Wadden Sea and large rivers such as the Rhine. The Aquaculture biology and Fisheries ecology Group plays an important role in managing sustainable aquaculture systems of the future with a minimal impact on environment and with positive effect on human and animal health.
Research themes
Fisheries research
We study how factors such as fisheries exploitation, climate change, eutrophication and socio-economic environments affect fish communities, and food-web dynamics.
Aquaculture research
We aim to contribute to sustainable, future-proof innovations by studying fish and shellfish nutrition and health in circular aquaculture systems.
