Bioinformatics

The Bioinformatics group, led by Marnix Medema (ad interim), focuses on fundamental and applied bioinformatics research in the green life sciences. We develop and apply novel computational methods for the analysis and integration of –omics data. We teach bioinformatics and data analysis to students at the bachelor, master and PhD levels.

Education

Education

Education by Bioinformatics

The Bioinformatics Group is involved in teaching several courses, at the BSc level in the minor Bioinformatics, and in the Bioinformatics MSc programme. In addition, we supervise BSc and Msc thesis projects within the research themes of our group, as well as internships at external partners.

Quote
"What I particularly liked during my MSc Bioinformatics was that you could see the connection between bioinformatics and biotechnology" - Claudia de Buck, student MSc Bioinformatics and Biotechnology

Publications & Projects

Publications & Projects

The Bioinformatics group focuses on fundamental and applied bioinformatics research in the green life sciences. We centre our research around computational methods for analysing and integrating -omics data, like metagenomics and metabolomics. We publish the results of our research in scientific journals, professional journals, scientific and popular books, and proceedings.

Chair Holder

Marnix Medema is professor and interim chair of the Bioinformatics group. With his research group he aims to build ways to explore large datasets, mainly to study the diversity of molecules like metabolites produced by bacteria, fungi and plants.
