Strategically placed within Wageningen University & Research, the Business Economics group performs research and teaches across a wide range of aspects of agricultural business economics and food supply chains. Our group is led by Alfons Oude Lansink.

Our research addresses urgent issues such as sustainable food production, food safety, animal and plant health, and the effect of the changing business environment on farmers, retailers, food processors and suppliers.

Our research is centred around three themes:

Education by Business Economics

The Business Economics group is composed of a professional team with a wide range of specializations. Students receive solid training in business economics providing them with the knowledge to address research questions in the area of the economics of farms and agribusinesses, animal health, plant health, food safety and sustainable agriculture. We encourage students to develop their own interests and to think critically.

Chair Holder

Alfons Oude Lansink is the chair of the Business Economics group since 2003. In 2017, he was the program chair of the tri-annual congress of the European Association of Agricultural Economists.He has published over 300 refereed journal articles and has acted as guest editor of leading international refereed economics journals.
