Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning
The Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning group led by Martha Bakker and Sanda Lenzholzer explores societal challenges including climate adaptation, transitions in the countryside, and urban developments. Many of these challenges are manifested within landscapes, which are broadly understood as complex socio-ecological systems that require comprehensive planning and design solutions. The LSP cluster generates planning and design recommendations to physically transform landscapes and cities supporting the creation and preservation of sustainable, healthy and resilient landscapes and urban environments.
Research
The Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning group studies how deliberate modifications to landscape features or processes contribute to the quality of life. Our research falls within six themes:

Education by Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning
Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning teaches several courses and studio's of the BSc and MSc programme of Landscape Architecture and Planning at Wageningen University & Research. We provide our students with knowledge and skills that enable and trigger them to develop landscape designs that are functional, meaningful, sustainable and beautiful.
Publications & Projects
We publish the results of our projects in scientific journals, professional journals, scientific and popular books, and conference proceedings. In our group, we pay special attention to the balance between results of research in a traditional scientific sense and results that have weight in the evaluation systems of designing disciplines.
