About The Leeuwenborch
The Leeuwenborch was designed by W.R. de Vries and built in 1974 to house the social sciences chair groups. The main design of the building incorporated a central heart linking three wings above a plateau. Under the plateau were stores and technical areas and above it were the libraries, lecture halls and a canteen. The red plating of the balconies was characteristic.
Since 2000, the building has been regularly expanded and renovated. The red cladding has been replaced with a durable, light gray version. The red color is repeated here and there, such as above the main entrance and in the roofline of the new, rounded wing to the right of the entrance. The window blinds in this wing are also red, so that the building, depending on the need for sun protection, retains its "old" color to a greater or lesser extent.
