The BioMarktMeter monitors the development of the market for organic food products in the Netherlands. Commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN), Wageningen Social & Economic Research collects data on the demand for and supply of organic products across various sales channels. These data are presented on a website and updated on a quarterly basis.
This data collection contributes to the Action Plan for the Growth of Organic Production and Consumption 2022–2030. The Action Plan aims to increase the share of organic farmland in the Netherlands to 15% by 2030.
The BioMarktMeter presents the following information:
- Turnover figures for organic food products in supermarkets, the food service sector and organic specialist shops
- Insights into the development of the supply, pricing and promotions of organic food products at five supermarkets
- Information on consumer behaviour, including perception, acceptance and purchasing decisions regarding organic food, with analyses of the underlying motivations and barriers for consumers.
All data and analyses are available on the website www.staatvanbiologisch.nl via the BioMarktMeter tab.
