Ulphard is an organic chemist with a broad interest in day-to-day applications. From 1995 to 2007 the focus was on developing protective packaging solutions for perishable products. This yielded detailled insights in the current use of plastic packages. From 2008 on the research focus was on material flow analysis of packaging waste and plastic packaging recycling
