Biography

Dr. Jeroen Wijsman is a marine ecologist with 30 years of research experience in the Zeeland Delta. After studying biology in Wageningen, he received his PhD from the University of Groningen on the relationship between benthic animals and organic matter decomposition in the Black Sea seabed The title of his thesis was "Early diagenetic processes in northwestern Black Sea sediments". He then worked as a marine ecology consultant at WL | Delft Hydraulics (now Deltares) in Delft where, using various types of models, he investigated the impact of various forms of human use on nature. Since 2005, Jeroen has been working as a marine ecologist at Wageningen Marine Research in Yerseke. Jeroen is a driven researcher familiar with conducting policy-sensitive research and consultancy. Models and statistical data analysis are fields of expertise he frequently uses. Over time, Jeroen has built an extensive network in the Southwestern Delta and is involved in various monitoring projects and impact studies. Jeroen has excellent analytical skills and knows how to reduce complex issues to manageable topics.
