Biography

Martijn Duineveld is Associate professor at the Cultural Geography Group Wageningen University, and he was co-director of the Centre for Space, Place and Society (2019-2022). He is co-founder and active contributor to the emerging body of literature on Evolutionary Governance Theory. He is also co-founder of The Dutch Network for Climate Obstruction Studies (Climate Obstruction NL) that connects academics, investigative journalists and NGO researchers who are studying climate obstruction in the Netherlands. Climate Obstruction NL is a network organization which aims to promote knowledge exchange and research collaboration. Martijn has been involved in many international research and consultancy projects situated in Argentina, Uganda, Georgia and Russia. He studied urban fringes and cities in the Netherlands (The Bulb region (2005-2010), Groningen (2010-2012) and Arnhem (2013-2018). In these cases, he explored the power interplays between local politicians, planners, designers, project developers and citizens. His studies have been published in innovative ways, speaking to academia and the broader public, including film-making, newspaper articles, and local news blogs.

  • Dutch Climate Obstruction Institute (DCOI) (6-6-2025/6-6-2045)
    DCOI is a foundation originated from the Climate Obstruction NL (CONL) research network. Delivers workshops and trainings on climate misinformation and other forms of climate destruction for journalists, politicians and policy makers/governments. My role as member of supervisory board will be to help navigate the positioning and strategy of DCOI by bringing an academic perspective.
