I (Igor) Sirnik, PhD MSc
Biography
I am a researcher and lecturer focused on addressing climate change through the advancement of renewable energy and circular agricultural systems. My work concentrates on energy transition, agrivoltaics (the integration of solar infrastructure with agricultural land), circular agriculture, the spatial planning of energy landscapes, and the assessment of climate change impacts on agricultural systems.
My academic trajectory includes research experience at several leading international institutions, such as Wageningen University (The Netherlands), LETG-Rennes laboratory at the University of Rennes 2 (France), Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), and University of Veracruz (Mexico). Collaboration with experts in landscape architecture, environmental sciences, climatology, agronomy, and geomatics has further strengthened my interdisciplinary approach.
In my teaching role, I lecture on spatial planning, geoinformatics, and climate change. At Wageningen University, my current research focuses on the spatial planning dimensions of the energy transition. I integrate research and education by supervising BSc and MSc students and supporting the development of future sustainability professionals.
