Biography
Wichertje Bron is communication employee at the Earth Systems and Global Change Group of Wageningen University.
Her main activities are:
- Communication for the Earth Systems and Global Change Group, including the management of the website.
- Editing and final editing for NatureToday.com (Daily news from nature).
- Communication for De Natuurkalender (Nature’s Calendar).
De Natuurkalender, Nature’s Calendar, is a Dutch phenological monitoring network. Phenology is the study of the timing of life cycle events like the start of flowering or insect appearance. The main objective of De Natuurkalender is to monitor, analyse, predict and communicate the timing of life cycle events in relation with climate change. Over 8.000 volunteers and school children make observations for De Natuurkalender and thus contribute to research on the effects of weather and climate to Dutch nature.
In March 2008 de website Natuurbericht.nl was started. On 26 november 2015 Natuurbericht.nl became Naturetoday.com. Biologists of several nature organisations bring daily news from nature on this website. Bron is a member of the editorial board of NatureToday.com en writes news items herself. Besides that she is the editor-in-chief of the website.
