Biography

Biography

I am a professional educator, facilitator, and sustainability specialist from California. I have a MSc in Sustainability Science and Policy and I’ve completed several courses from the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in wastewater management, nutrient cycling, and biodiversity planning in response to climate change.

I come to WUR as an awarded lecturer and teaching mentor from Maastricht University where I coordinated courses in the MSc in Sustainability Science and taught climate science at the Maastricht Sustainability Institute. Prior to the Netherlands, I spent several years as a primary and secondary school teacher in the United States.

Beyond my teaching experience I’ve had a very diverse career, I’ve worked in the field managing land, rivers, dams, and endangered species for the US government; I’ve helped support disaster resilience for the American Red Cross; and I’ve spent a decade facilitating and training facilitators for UN and ERASMUS+ programs between participants in the US, EU, and MENA regions. Academically I sit at the boundary between science and policy, while my academic background is grounded more firmly in the social sciences, in practice I have spent most of my time looking to bridge science and policy to build societies more resilient to climate change.
