My research is about modelling sources and fate of nutrients in a connected Farm-River-Lake system for effective water quality management. I am currently focusing on lake part. Increasing nutrient concentration in lakes is the major cause of lake eutrophication. Preliminary studies of N and P migration to water bodies considered them point and non-point sources. Governments in different regions have formulated specific management measures to control nutrient input from land to waterbody, but the lake remains at risk of seasonal eutrophication. Sediment-water surface plays provide an essential place for chemical and biological processes which are also nutrient sources. Our research aims to provide a comprehensive view of the both exogenous and endogenous sources of Erhai Lake in China and explore the impact of the two sources.
