Research:
Nematode secretions in host parasite interactions
Parasitic nematodes have evolved clever strategies to live inside their hosts for a long time. Nematodes hijack host cells such that the host reallocates part of its essential resources to the parasite. In many cases this unique phenomenon of nematode parasitism does not elicit a defence response in the host. The key nematode molecules that are accountable for host cell transformation and suppression of the host defence responses are thought be in nematode sectretions.
Nematode secretions are in fact complex mixtures of hundreds of different proteins. Each of these proteins target different cellular and moleculare processes in the host. It is our objective to resolve the identity of these individual effectors in nematode secretions and to understand how they contribute to parasitism.
Some of the nematode effectors may actually activiate host defence responses, whereas others may suppress immunity in the host. We aim to understand the evolutionary and molecular dynamics between activators and suppressors of host immunity, which is essential knowledge for treatment and control of nematode infections. Our research program includes molecular studies of animal and plant-parasitic nematodes.

De WAQO is een overlegorgaan tussen Ministerie van LVVN (Nationaal Referentie Centrum Fytosanitair van de NVWA), Wageningen Universiteit & Research, Brancheorganisatie Akkerbouw en vertegenwoordigers van het bedrijfsleven waarin de actuele situatie in Nederland wordt besproken ten aanzien van verspreiding en beheersing van nematodensoorten met een quarantaine status in de EU. - Koninklijke Nederlandse Plantenziektekundige Vereniging (1-4-1998/31-12-2099)
Binnen de KNPV zijn 11 werkgroepen actief, die bijeenkomsten en activiteiten organiseren over een bepaalde plantenziekte of groep van plantenpathogenen. Het doel is uitwisseling van informatie over recente ontwikkelingen binnen het eigen werkveld. - Nederlandse Vereniging voor Parasitologie (NVP) (1-1-2022/31-12-2099)
De werkgroep veterinaire parasitologie van de NVP stelt zich ten doel om een klankbord te zijn voor iedereen die werkzaam is in de veterinaire parasitologie door uitwisseling van informatie en door het initiëren van activiteiten op het gebied van de veterinaire parasitologie. De werkgroep is een aanspreekpunt voor het bestuur van de NVP en geeft input aan de congrescommissie met betrekking tot actuele ontwikkelingen in de veterinaire parasitologie.
