Call for Partners | PRORISKFOOD: Decision support for buying, routing, sampling and testing
The aim of the project is to develop a decision support tool. The tool will support food companies in taking best decisions on buying, sourcing, sampling and testing raw materials for the presence of food safety hazards. A proof-of-principle is available from a previous project (PRO-RISKFEED), which allowed for predicting food safety hazards in feed based on monitoring data and AI models.

About the project
Various drivers influence the food supply chain. For example, climate change can affect crop yields but also microbial contamination. Other drivers are the circularity and protein transition. Furthermore, the geopolitical situation affects the food supply chain as was demonstrated at the start of the Ukraine War. All these drivers impact both food security and food safety. Wageningen Food Safety Research can support food companies in evaluating the impact of such drivers on expected food safety hazards using available monitoring data and AI modelling approaches.
More about the project
Within this multi-year project, we will develop a trend- and predictive model, resulting in a user-friendly dashboard that supports in:
- Short-term decisions on buying, sampling and testing raw materials based on expected food safety hazards
- Long-term assessments determining the impact of certain drivers, such as climate change, on food safety in global regions
Key benefits are:
- Cost-effective sampling since the dashboard helps identifying the most relevant food safety hazards for raw materials and can pinpoint geographic areas at risk,
- Increased food safety since sourcing of raw materials can be optimised based on geographic origin,
- Reduced economic losses, due to less recalls, and food waste.
Interested parties are welcome to join us in this Public Private Partnership (PPP). Especially companies or organisations that are active in raw material sourcing or food production are invited to respond. LVVN will subsidise 50% and participation in this PPP requires co-financing of 50% of the budget.
