Did you complete Intermediate Dutch 1 and would you like to continue learning Dutch? Or do you already speak Dutch well in social situations, but want to further improve your language skills? Would you like to know for example how to talk about your health, or how to give your opinion in different ways? In that case, our Intermediate Dutch 2 course is just the thing for you.

Who is this course suitable for?

Target group

The course is for international employees, PhD candidates and expats who already have prior knowledge of Dutch and who want to learn Dutch for social purposes on and outside their workplace.

From on the way to A2 to A2

You need prior knowledge of Dutch for this course. If you have completed Intermediate Dutch 1, you can participate in Intermediate Dutch 2. You can also start if you have studied Dutch before, for example, in your own country. In that case, please send your telephone number to into@wur.nl so we can schedule an intake.

This course will help you reach language level A2. Read more about the language levels (CEFR).

Approach
You'll learn to communicate in Dutch. All skills are covered: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. We'll focus on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and Dutch customs and traditions. Reading and writing will be done largely through independent study.

What will this course teach you?

Skills

After this course, you will be able to:

  • ask friendly questions;
  • name body parts;
  • give instructions about movement;
  • describe the future;
  • encourage someone;
  • write a formal letter or email;
  • give advice;
  • say how you feel and talk about your health;
  • ask for personal information;
  • give compliments;
  • say that something is unnecessary or that you do not want to answer;
  • ask for an opinion and give your opinion

Grammar

Grammar is always covered in a communication context and for functional purposes.

Culture and history influence the language of a country. That is why this course will also pay attention to interesting and relevant aspects of Dutch culture and history. Knowledge about these topics will make it easier to understand Dutch people and their responses.
