Would you like to broaden your grammatical knowledge and Dutch vocabulary? If so, our Intermediate Dutch 1 course is perfect for you. After this course you will be able to speak Dutch in everyday situations and you will be able to do things such as giving your opinion or asking for advice. You will also learn about Dutch customs and traditions.

Who is this course suitable for?

Target group

The course is for international employees, PhD candidates or expats who already have some prior knowledge of Dutch and who want to learn Dutch for social purposes on and outside their workplace.

From A1 to on the way to A2

You need prior knowledge of Dutch for this course. If you have completed Basic Dutch 2, you can participate in Intermediate Dutch 1. You can also start if you have studied Dutch before, for example, in your own country. In that case, please send your telephone number to into@wur.nl so we can schedule an intake.

This course will help you reach language level A2. Read more about the language levels (CEFR).

Approach
You'll learn to communicate in Dutch. All skills are covered: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. We'll focus on grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and Dutch customs and traditions. Reading and writing will be done largely through independent study.

What will this course teach you?

Skills

Once you have completed the course, you will be able to:

  • describe a city, village or landscape;
  • talk about the weather;
  • talk about what you do during the holidays;
  • make suggestions;
  • write an informal email;
  • ask for and give directions;
  • talk about means of transport;
  • describe and evaluate food;
  • understand a recipe;
  • tell someone what to do;
  • specify quantities;
  • talk about your house and furniture;
  • compare things;
  • name forms.

Grammar

Grammar is always discussed in a communicative context and in functional situations.

This course will also cover Dutch pronunciation and interesting aspects of Dutch culture.

The lecturer will speak Dutch as much as possible during the course.
