WUR in the regions of the Netherlands

The regions of the Netherlands face major challenges. The energy transition, the renewal of agriculture, nature restoration, climate adaptation and the growing demand for housing all compete for the same space. At the same time, we aim to maintain a strong economy and a healthy, attractive living environment. Achieving that balance is only possible if we tackle these challenges together.
Working together on tailored solutions
We collaborate with provinces, municipalities, entrepreneurs, knowledge institutions and societal organisations to develop solutions that reflect the strengths and identity of each region.
Every region is different. Together, we seek the right balance between nature, agriculture, housing, water, energy and the economy. Sometimes the key lies in technological innovation, sometimes in new economic opportunities or smart policy. It always comes down to tailored solutions and mutual learning.
Innovation in the region
Across our research and field locations nationwide, dynamic partnerships are emerging where knowledge, policy and practice strengthen one another. Regional partners and WUR work together on themes such as agriculture, food, water, nature, health and energy.
These locations also serve as meeting places where entrepreneurs, researchers, policymakers and students connect. By experimenting and learning together, new ideas grow into solutions that work, in the region and beyond.
Regional hubs
Long term collaboration
Long-term collaboration builds trust and depth. Students and researchers bring new knowledge and fresh perspectives, while regional partners contribute their experience and local context. In this way, education, research and practice strengthen one another, helping us to build sustainable and resilient regions together.
Wageningen as an example
In our home town Wageningen, we also work closely with the municipality on societal challenges. Under the banner of the City Agenda, we explore how themes such as health, energy and climate can be integrated into the living environment. This collaboration shows how knowledge and practice can reinforce one another, exactly what we aim to achieve in other regions as well.
Looking ahead together
Whether it’s about future-proof agriculture, healthy communities or a strong regional economy, progress happens when we connect knowledge and practice. WUR brings research, data and expertise; regional partners bring ambition, networks and on-the-ground experience.
Together, we find answers that fit the region of today, and help shape the Netherlands of tomorrow.
