Introduction

Climate change increases the likelihood of both floods and droughts, requiring smart, integrated water management solutions.

At Wageningen University & Research, we study how extreme weather events such as heavy rainfall and prolonged droughts affect the water system and what measures are needed to mitigate their impacts. Our focus is on developing adaptive strategies that address both floods and droughts, considering ecological, social, and economic aspects.

We collaborate with governments, water authorities, businesses, and societal organizations to develop and apply knowledge that contributes to climate-resilient water management. This includes modeling water flows, designing water-resilient infrastructure, monitoring groundwater levels, and advising on policy measures and spatial planning.
