Wageningen Electron Microscopy Centre

Good to know

In short
  • High-resolution imaging at micro and nano scale
  • Advanced cryo-electron microscopy
  • Complete workflow from preparation to analysis

The Wageningen Electron Microscopy Centre (WEMC) provides direct access to advanced electron microscopy – including cryo-electron microscopy for detailed imaging and analysis at the micro- and nanoscale. The facility supports innovative materials and life sciences research, with applications in food, health, plant sciences, and high-tech materials.

What can you do at the WEMC?

What can you do here?

WEMC operates advanced equipment for 2D and 3D imaging of materials and biological samples: SEM, cryo-SEM, TEM and cryo-TEM. Element analysis is possible through integrated EDX.

You can work independently or benefit from the expertise of our microscopists. WEMC offers a wide range of preparation techniques, from standard SEM/TEM sample preparation to advanced cryo methods such as cryo-vitrification and high-pressure freezing. The complete workflow is available in one place.

Thanks to this combination of technology, user-friendliness and broad applicability, WEMC supports your work on research questions in areas such as food, nanomaterials, biology and medical innovations.

“Electron microscopy offers a level of detail that no other technique can achieve.”
