Supervision of the IBR/BVD Eradication Programme (BIB)

The benefits
In short- Independent quality assurance of veterinary laboratories
- Professional supervision on behalf of ZuivelNL and the Dutch cattle sector
- Contribution to the eradication of IBR and BVD
- For reliable and independent veterinary diagnostics
The BIB eradication programme for infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) and bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD) aims to make the Netherlands free of these cattle diseases. Several laboratories are accredited to perform IBR and BVD diagnostics. Supervision of these laboratories is carried out by Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR), which also advises ZuivelNL on new accreditations. In this way, we safeguard quality, reliability and a healthy cattle population in the Netherlands.
Who is BIB intended for?
To eliminate infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) and bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD), the Dutch cattle sector collaborates in a national eradication programme. This initiative was established by LTO Nederland, the Dutch Dairy Organisation (NZO) and the Foundation for the Calf Sector (SBK). ZuivelNL manages the system for laboratory authorisation on behalf of these organisations.
Within this programme, reliable diagnostics are essential. Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR) supervises the laboratories performing analyses for the IBR and BVD eradication programme (BIB).
The BIB Supervision Team at WBVR assesses whether laboratories meet the protocols and quality standards established by ZuivelNL. We advise ZuivelNL on authorisations and monitor compliance. This helps the sector to work in a standardised, transparent and reliable way towards improved animal health.
