Modelling & visualisation

Within this research theme, we aim to develop better ways to analyse and visualise spatial data, so we can understand environmental patterns and processes more accurately and communicate them more effectively.
Topics
Our work focusses on two topics: Spatial analysis and Visualisation of geo-information.
Spatial analysis
This part of our research focuses on physically and statistically grounded methods for studying spatio-temporal data that vary across space and time. We work with deterministic and statistical spatio-temporal models, machine and deep learning techniques, and geostatistics. We also investigate the uncertainties linked to spatial datasets and assess whether data are suitable for different applications. These methods support a wide range of fields, from precision agriculture to nuclear-emergency response.
Visualisation of geo-information
This theme focuses on creating clear, readable and meaningful visual representations of spatial data and modelling results. We design and evaluate maps, graphics and other visual tools that help researchers, policymakers and the wider public understand complex geographic information. This work is closely connected to the other research themes, as effective visualisation is crucial for sharing scientific insights.
