Do you ever have trouble with English grammar? Does your message not always come across clearly because you cannot come up with the right words in conversation or an academic text? In the English Skills Lab you will learn the grammar and vocabulary that you need to write more complex academic texts in English.
Who is this course suitable for?
English Skills Lab is aimed at bachelor’s and master’s students who want to further develop their academic grammar and vocabulary.
Course level: B2-C1 and up. Read more about the language levels (CEFR).
Admission requirements
To take this course you need an Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) score between 40 - 90. You can apply for the online OOPT by emailing us at into@wur.nl. Find out more about the OOPT.
What will you learn?
Course content
In this course you will learn to correctly apply the rules of English grammar and vocabulary. You will work on:
- Grammar: comparisons, word order, the past, present, and future tense of verbs, passive voice, modal verbs, conditional clauses, and indirect speech;
- Vocabulary: academic verbs, adjectives, nouns, adverbs, cause and effect, argumentation, prepositions, conjunctions, milder expressions/politeness, and expansion of academic vocabulary.

The course price does not include course materials.
If you register for an online course, you follow all classes online using the Virtual Classroom in Brightspace. If you choose a face-to-face course, all classes will take place at our location: Forum, Wageningen Campus.
This course consists of 8 classes of 1 hour and 45 minutes per week. You should count on about 2 to 3 hours of individual study per week.
Participants will have access to Brightspace, where all the required materials will be available.
You will receive a certificate from Wageningen in’to Languages if you attend at least 80% of the lessons.
