This course is for people who can already understand simple words, sentences, and short texts in French. You can also take the course if you have completed the course French 2. After completing the online course French 3, you can move on to French 4.
Who is this course suitable for?
French 3 is for anyone who has taken three or four years of French at the HAVO or VWO level and wants to improve their language skills, or anyone who has completed the French 2 course.
Did you take French at HAVO or VWO level or have you acquired French knowledge in another way? Then take a free intake to determine your level. This involves a short phone conversation with the teacher. Email your phone number to into@wur.nl.
What will you learn?
From on the way to A2 to A2
This course will help you reach language level A2. After completing this course, you will be able to:
- have simple, short conversations on personal topics in French;
- follow broadly everyday conversations on familiar topics;
- write short, simple messages or emails.
After completing this course, you can continue learning French with our French 4 course (level: on the way to A2). Read more about the language levels (CEFR).

In this French 3 course, we cover a range of grammar topics, including:
- The passé composé (simple past)
- Personal pronouns as indirect object
- Comparisons and the superlative
- The pronoun Y
- The imparfait (the imperfect)
- Relative pronouns
- The imperative
- The futur simple (future tense)
- The conditional tense

This course is offered annually in February, April/May and September/October.

Payment: We will send you an invoice by email on the day the course starts.
The course consists of eight lessons of one hour and forty-five minutes each week. You should also allow for two to three hours of self-study per week to reach the desired level. The maximum number of participants per group is 16.
If you register for an online course, you follow all classes online using the Virtual Classroom in Brightspace. If you choose a face-to-face course, all classes will take place at our location: Forum, Wageningen Campus.

To receive a Wageningen in'to Languages certificate, a minimum attendance of 80% is required. A diagnostic test is optional.
