On the sandy soils of Drenthe in Marwijksoord lies the Kooijenburg experimental farm. This research and demonstration site for arable and forage crops is the only WUR trial location on northern sandy soils in the Netherlands, with a historic nutrient deficiency field. On 60 hectares of sandy soil, we conduct practical research in cooperation with farmers and chain partners.

What can you do at Marwijksoord?

What can you do here?

At our trial site in Marwijksoord you can commission practice-oriented research. The sandy soil has a low organic matter content (3.5 to 5%). This makes it ideal for a wide range of trials, particularly in the fields of fertilisation, crop performance and cropping systems, crop rotation and soil health. We also conduct variety comparisons in various crops.

In addition to arable crops, this location is also specialised in the cultivation of forage crops. The unique nutrient deficiency field – established in 1954 – provides reliable results for studies on nutrient shortages. The trials are carried out using specially adapted field trial machinery.
