The trial site Westmaas, situated in the Hoeksche Waard region of South Holland, specialises in research on potatoes, cereals and sugar beet. The soils are predominantly heavy silt loam to light clay. In addition to field trials, the location offers extensive facilities for potato storage research. With its excellent infrastructure, Westmaas enables integrated chain research from field to product quality.

What can you do at trial site Westmaas?
The test location covers 80 hectares of well-structured, drained and homogeneous soils – ideal for reliable and consistent research. Located in the south-western delta, the area benefits from sufficient freshwater availability even in dry periods. With access to surface water, all trial plots can be irrigated. A modern fleet of trial machinery allows for precise and efficient fieldwork. The location also houses a state-of-the-art storage facility with 16 climate-controlled cells, suitable for both box and bulk storage of potatoes.
Westmaas is home to the Wageningen Potato Centre (WPC), ensuring strong links with industry. Every two years, the location hosts the Potato Demonstration Day, a major event dedicated to knowledge exchange in the potato sector.
