Trial site Vredepeel

Covering around 170 hectares of reclaimed sandy soil, Vredepeel is characterised by its light, drought-prone soils with low to moderate loam content. Part of the site is managed organically. A wide range of research can be carried out here, for example in the fields of:

• Soil and fertilisation: soil quality, soil health, fertilisation and nitrate leaching
• Cropping systems: resilient cultivation (ICM), organic farming and crop optimisation
• Water and environment: erosion control, water management and infiltration

A good research project starts with the right question. Our experts will help you define your research question and design a suitable trial setup with clear, transparent agreements. Depending on your needs, we involve the right specialists - either from Vredepeel or from elsewhere within WUR.
Throughout the growing season, you can follow interim results and visit the trial fields. After completion, you will receive an independent research report if desired. In this way, we translate new knowledge directly into practice and support the sector in its transition to sustainable, future-proof farming.

Vredepeel welcomes agricultural businesses and supply chain partners seeking to improve their farming practices, as well as organisations wishing to test their research projects on sandy and loess soils. The site is also well suited to initiatives focusing on climate-resilient cropping systems, organic farming and the reduction of leaching and run-off.
