ACRRES - Switch - Test facility renewable energy

Good to know

In short
  • Smart combination of sun, wind and storage
  • Practical research into grid integration and hydrogen
  • Collaboration between WUR, TNO and businesses

ACRRES Switch is the test facility of Wageningen University & Research and TNO where solar and wind energy are combined with battery and hydrogen storage. The facility explores how renewable energy can be smartly integrated into the electricity grid.

What can you do at Switch?

What can you do here?

At ACRRES Switch in Lelystad, companies, research institutes and other partners can test how renewable energy can be generated, stored and used in flexible ways. The facility combines six small wind turbines, solar panels, a battery system and an electrolyser for hydrogen production.

Switch is part of ACRRES, the Wageningen University & Research application centre for renewable energy and green resources. In collaboration with TNO, research focuses on how the interaction between solar, wind, batteries and hydrogen can help solve grid congestion.

Partners can carry out real-world simulations and validate their technologies in an operational microgrid. The test environment enables the development, demonstration and implementation of ‘Smart Grid’ and ‘Smart Energy’ solutions – from solar panel to hydrogen tractor.

“At Switch, we can test renewable energy solutions in real practice – from solar panel to hydrogen tractor.”
