ACRRES - Biorefinery and digestion facility

Good to know
In short- Valorising biomass into biobased products
- Innovative processes for sustainable feedstocks
- Collaboration with industry and research partners
The ACRRES Biorefinery and Anaerobic Digestion Facility focuses on the separation and valorisation of biomass into high-value feedstocks and products. In our test and development facility, we collaborate with industry partners to advance innovations from lab to pilot and demonstration scale.
What can you do at this facility?
The facility offers companies the opportunity to test, optimise and scale up biomass processing technologies. We develop and demonstrate innovative processes to separate and convert biomass into sustainable raw materials for sectors such as food, packaging, construction and energy.
The facility is equipped with controlled fermenters (5 L), dry and stirred digesters, scale-up reactors ranging from 20 litres to container size, and equipment for size reduction, washing and treatment of biomass, including the GoGrass pilot installation. Various biomass streams can be tested, such as grass, roadside grass, straw, sugar beet, manure, digestate and other residues.
In collaboration with industry, we develop new process concepts and demonstrate them at pilot scale, carry out model calculations based on field data, and supply innovatively produced biobased materials for further value-assessment research.

Who is the facility for?
The facility is intended for companies, research institutes and technology developers in the biobased sector who aim to create value from biomass. From start-ups and SMEs to industrial players, this is a place for organisations seeking to test, scale up and demonstrate new conversion, biorefining or digestion processes.
