Biobased Products Innovation Plant

Good to know
In short- Access to large-scale, professional pilot infrastructure
- Scientific support from experts at Wageningen University & Research
- Accelerated development from laboratory to practical application
- Opportunities for subsidised public-private partnerships
At the Biobased Products Innovation Plant, researchers develop innovative processes to convert green raw materials (biomass) into biobased products. At the plant researchers, together with R&D-developers, create impactful breakthroughs in the transition from fossil-based products to more sustainable alternatives.
What can you do at the Biobased Products Innovation Plant?
At our large scale facility you can extract valuable components, like carbohydrates, proteins and lignin, from all kinds of biomass: from agricultural crops and plant residues to algae and fresh biomass. With biotechnological and chemical processes, we convert them into biobased chemicals and materials.
Our innovative polymer compounding facilities create new high performance materials up to a 1000 kilogram scale. Using industrially relevant processing techniques such as injection moulding, film blowing, compression moulding, sheet casting, extrusion foaming and thermoforming we develop prototypes and demonstrators for packaging, building, textile and agricultural applications.
Via high-level mechanical, thermal and chemical characterization techniques we demonstrate how these materials and products perform during use ánd end-of-life.
This way we shape the biobased economy of tomorrow.
Who is the Biobased Products Innovation Plant intended for?
The facility is designed for companies, public authorities and research institutes working on sustainable biomass applications and investing in the development of biobased products and processes.
