Precision agriculture enables growers to optimize their management down to the level of a field, a square meter, or even an individual plant. Wageningen University & Research (WUR) develops and tests practical applications that help businesses produce more efficiently, sustainably and profitably.

WUR is an international leader in precision agriculture. Our researchers combine their knowledge of crop- and productionsystems with data and technology to map variations in soil and crop conditions. This insight is translated into practical advice and directly applicable innovations.
What sets this expertise apart is its strong connection to real-world practice. Together with farmers, companies and public authorities, we test and refine technologies at experimental sites such as the National Precision Agriculture Testing Ground (NPPL) and Farm of the Future. These facilities are equipped with advanced data infrastructures, machinery for “as-applied” registration, and extensive sensor networks using satellite imagery, soil scans and yield measurements per square meter.

Through field trials, sensor data, digital platforms and statistical modelling, we accelerate the transition from lab to land. In doing so, WUR helps the sector achieve higher yields with fewer inputs and lower emissions – while preparing for new sustainability requirements and evolving market demands.
