Digital decision support helps growers and agri-businesses work faster, more precisely and demonstrably more sustainably. Wageningen University & Research (WUR) translates data and complex models into practical insights and tools – from smart apps and dashboards to (semi-)autonomous greenhouse control and field applications.
Decision support systems and user applications turn complex data into actionable information through clear, intuitive interfaces. This results in concrete, reliable advice for daily practice. We combine agronomic expertise with UX design, data modelling and systems integration to ensure that recommendations fit seamlessly into growers’ operational workflows. Examples include field-level irrigation planning, early disease warnings or greenhouse control recommendations – all supported by explainable AI to show why each advice is given.
Our approach is multidisciplinary and practice-oriented: our crop experts, data scientists, engineers and designers work closely with growers, businesses and policymakers. We validate system performance under real-life conditions, provide user training and ensure proper maintenance and continuous improvement through updates, monitoring and security. The result: user-friendly systems that demonstrably improve performance, ensure compliance with regulations and gain trust in the field.
- From data to decision: We translate complex data and models into clear decision rules, alerts and scenarios. Recommendations are practical, transparent and directly actionable within the cultivation plan.
- UX and practical adoption: Interfaces are co-designed with users, while training and support ensure successful implementation.
- Integration and standards: Connections with sensors, Cyber Physical System platforms and farm or greenhouse management systems ensure automatic data flow. We use APIs and recognised data standards.
- Validation and reliability: Recommendations are field- and greenhouse-tested for accuracy, robustness and added value. Explainable AI enhances trust and compliance.
- Maintenance and further development: We provide continuous monitoring, updates, security and feedback loops, ensuring each application remains up to date with changing cultivation conditions and regulations.
