Library access tools
WUR students, researchers and employees can use the Library's databases, journals and ebooks both on campus and off-campus. You can get access to the licenced resources in various ways.
Getting access off-campus
WUR students and staff have access to all the scientific literature and databases of the WUR Library, even when off-campus. There are two ways to get easy access and use the Library's digital collections, no matter where you are.

There are two ways to get off-campus access:
- Log in to My Library with your WUR account and access all licenced databases and collections through the Library website.
- With the Lean Library browser extension. Once installed, the browser extension automatically detects if WUR Library has access to the resource on the website you're visiting. You don’t have to visit the Library website first; you can access licenced resources directly as you come across them on the web.
Lean Library browser extension
Lean Library is a tool that provides quick and easy access to subscribed online resources such as databases and e-journals, as well as to open access publications. The Lean Library browser extension automatically detects if WUR has access to the resource you're visiting. WUR Library has a licence for the Lean Library browser plugin. You can download the browser extension for free.

How does it work?
- The browser extension will show a pop-up message when you are on a publisher's website with licenced material.
- You can then click the access button and login with your WUR account.
- The extension will search for alternative, legal ways to get the full text, including Open Access, if the Library doesn't have a subscription.
- The Lean Library browser extension works on desktops and laptops only and is available for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, Safari and iOS. The extension is no longer available for Internet Explorer (IE).
Install Lean Library in just 4 steps
- Go to https://download.leanlibrary.com/wur.
- Download Lean Library for your browser and device.
- After you install Lean Library, a new window or tab will open with settings for the extension. Search for 'Wageningen' in the search field and click on 'Wageningen University & Research'.
- Click on 'save'. You can now use the Lean Library browser plugin.
You can use Lean Library completely anonymously. Please read Lean Library's privacy policy for all information on the use of their services and your data.
