We address societal challenges in agriculture, food, and nature by combining economic expertise with sustainability insights. Through socio-economic analyses, data integration, and visualisation tools, we support public and private stakeholders in making well-founded decisions.
Actionable insights for policy and practice
Wageningen University & Research maintains a comprehensive dataset on businesses, products, consumers, and systems. Part of this data is collected in-house, for example through the Dutch Farm Sustainability Data Network (Dutch: Bedrijveninformatienet) and the National Manure Policy Monitoring Network (Dutch: Landelijk meetnet effecten mestbeleid), and is complemented by external sources such as the OECD, EU, FAO, and Eurostat.
Our models and analyses are built on robust data management through the metadata-driven platform Adagio. This data warehouse records use, description, and validation of data by domain experts and delivers harmonised data sources. It provides a solid foundation for interdisciplinary research, statutory tasks, and policy support.
Our strength lies in the combination of data expertise, modelling, scenario analysis, and in-depth agricultural knowledge. By linking data from different policy domains, we make the broader societal impact of policy visible and connect it to established objectives. This way, we directly link insights to goal-oriented and results-driven policymaking, and translate them into actionable insights for policy and practice.

Through Agro & food portal (Dutch: Agrimatie) we provide access to our data and analyses. The platform offers insights into developments:
- at regional level, such as the Dutch province of North Holland;
- by theme, such as manure and minerals;
- within sectors, such as fisheries.
